'When you've got your own insecurities and then when people go and tell you and write them on websites for everyone to see it just makes you feel really rubbish.
'Being in a girl group with three beautiful girls who are a lot slimmer and smaller than me... and obviously I know I'm a lot bigger. I find it really hard when people publicise it on Twitter.'
Bandmate Jade Thirlwall tried to reassure Jesy, telling her: 'You're one of the prettiest, nicest people I have ever met, and I hate seeing you upset.'
Fans of Jesy subsequently flooded Facebook and Twitter with messages of support, with one fan writing: 'Jesy from Little Mix you are freakin' beautiful. don't listen to those stupid haters, they are pathetic. head up high darl'! <3'
Another added: 'RT If you think every member of Little Mix is beautiful and Jesy should take no notice of haters x x'
Meanwhile beauty brand Dove posted a message on their Facebook page saying: 'We were really saddened by the cruel comments on Twitter about X-Factor's Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson. Beauty comes in different shapes, sizes, ages and races, so like this post if you agree.'
Fans clearly agreed with the sentiment, as the post received over 7,000 likes and more than 300 comments.
The girl group had already had a challenging week, changing their name from Rhythmix after a legal dispute with a charity of the same name.
But Jesy and the girls clearly didn't let their issues affect their performance, with Little Mix wowing the judges with their performance of Katy Perry's ET.
Judge Gary Barlow said their performance made picking a winner very difficult, mentor Tulisa Contostavlos praised them for being 'real' while Louis Walsh said they were the best group the X Factor has ever seen.
